This is bitterweet for me, because my dear Gramma Ruth passed away last week at the age of 89. I went to see her a couple weeks ago, basically to say goodbye because she had deteriorated so. I told her how much I loved and appreciated her and Grampa, my mom's parents, for being second parents to me - they helped raise me from a very young age.
Grampa taught me many things, including:
1) Root for the Red Sox and whoever's playing the Yankees;
2) Root for the Celtics and whoever's playing the Lakers;
3) Don't be afraid to stick your neck out when you see something going very wrong (I'll never forget walking the dog with him one day, and what an impression it made on me when he stopped some neighbor kids from being cruel to an animal).
